Laura Sturkie was born in Boston, MA and lived there until she moved to the Myrtle Beach area during her middle school years. She graduated from Socastee High (1985) and went on to the University of South Carolina where she earned a Bachelor degree (1989) in child psychology with a minor in English.
Laura met her husband, Mark (who is a Lexington High graduate) while in college, and they married in 1991. They have three daughters and nothing has been more important or fulfilling to her than raising them. Sarah is a junior at Clemson, majoring in psychology and social work, and is very involved in FCA. Hannah is a sophomore at USC, majoring in public relations and cheering for the Gamecocks. Emma is a 5th grade student at New Providence Elementary and involved in a little bit of everything right now, mostly loving life! Laura has volunteered in various positions in the Lexington schools over the past 16 years and has been a child mentor at New Providence for the past six years.
