Vote for a star

Our 2017 Event was a Big Success!

Held Saturday, May 6, 2017 at the Performing Arts Center at River Bluff High School, this year's Dancing with the Stars Lexington drew a terrific crowd. Styled after TV's "Dancing with the Stars," this exciting event provided guests with a wonderful evening of entertainment.

During the evening's festivities, 12 couples competed for the coveted People's Choice Awards, which was determined by votes received, and the Judges’ Awards. (Votes, in the form of funds donated, determined the People's Choice Award winners, while the Judges’ Award was based on technical skills.) Congratulations to our top winners - Troy Simpson won 1st Place People’s Choice Award and Allie Spillyards won the 1st Place Judges’ Award. (See complete list of winners in the News section.)

This year’s event was a huge success in raising a total of $57,209 for educational programs that support Lexington One students, teachers and schools. Executive Director Julie A. Washburn stated, “We are extremely thankful to our event sponsors, celebrity dancers, Columbia’s Ballroom Company and everyone else who generously supported Lexington One in this entertaining way.”

The Lexington One Educational Foundation will allocate funds raised from this year’s event for educational programs in the district. A great example is the 21st Century Innovation Grants for Elementary Schools, which currently fund International Baccalaureate training for Lexington Elementary educators, creation of a Personalized Learning Lab at Red Bank Elementary, leadership training for students and staff at Rocky Creek Elementary, and brain-based education training at New Providence Elementary. Annually the Educational Foundation works to build partnerships with individuals and corporations in order to enhance educational opportunities for Lexington One students and strengthen the local community.

On behalf of the board and staff with the Lexington One Educational Foundation, many thanks to all of our celebrity dancers, event sponsors, event volunteers, and every single person who supported the 2017 Dancing with the Stars Lexington fundraiser!
